By Yemi Itodo     The Abuja residence of one of the finest officers Nigeria ever produced, Air Vice Marshall Toni Adokwu (Rtd) was on Saturday filled to its capacity when family members and close associates stormed the arena to witness the cutting of cake to mark 50th birthday anniversary of his wife, Mrs. Esther Adokwu. The Idoma born gallant gentleman who recently retired honourably from active service also marked the 28th anniversary of his marriage with his amiable wife, Esther whom he described as “perfect image of God “. AVM Adokwu, as he is fondly called by friends, got married to his beautiful bride 28 years ago at the age of 28 while his bride was 22. A visit to this godly family anytime of the day or night would leave you with an impression of a fresh couple basking in the euphoria of honeymoon; with their children also sustaining the tempo of one United and happy Christian home. While celebrating his family at 28 which also coincided with the golden jubilee of his wife, the elated Adokwu could not appreciate God enough for His faithfulness. “It’s a very fulfilling day because God has been so faithful. We got married 28 years ago at tender age but I tell you, now we are both of age, yet, the 28 years of marriage appears to me like yesterday. She has not lost steam! I still look at her the same way she was 28 years ago. I have never had cause to regret anything in our marriage. She is the perfect image of God designed for me. This could only be God. His mercies are new every morning and so we are renewed every morning too”, Adokwu said gleefully. The soft spoken retired General also used the event to pray for Agatu people of Benue who were recently displaced by Fulani insurgents and called on the government and relevance authorities to help end the crisis as soon as possible and also expedite actions to return the IDPs to their ancestral homes for the new farming season. On her part, the celebrant Mrs. Esther Adokwu said she was full of joy to have attained a golden age. While thanking God for His mercies that have kept the family going; the golden woman also prayed for more of such celebrations in her family and of those who graced the event. When asked why the family elected to celebrate such a milestone in a low key and at their residence instead of normal multi million naira event centre for glamorous ocassions; Mrs. Adokwu said it was the family decision to step down the earlier plan and rather host a parlour party with family members and a few associates, to thank God and also pray for our people in Agatu. “We feel their pains. We have been doing our best through prayers, solidarity and empathy. We decided to mark this day in low key as mark of solidarity to them and we pray it ends soon”, she added. Among the dignitaries who cut the anniversary cake with the family are, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. G.A. Olonisakin; Major Gen. U. Buzugbe (Rtd); Major Gen. O.F. Alli; AVM Clem Aroriode (Rtd) and AVM E.E. Osim (Rtd). Others include Air Commodore D.M. Esi (Rtd); Air Commodore A.B. Kachiro (Rtd); Air Commodore K.O. George; Air Commodore M.A. Akiode; former Miss Idoma and daughter to the family, Ehi Adokwu; to mention but a few. image image image
