Ahead of the 2017 PDP elective convention some party leaders as well as members are kicking against micro-zoning major positions of the National Working Committee (NWC) especially the National Chairman and the National Publicity Secretary (NPS) as they insist that micro-zoning will spell doom for the party. Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State clearly sounded a note of warning to the party leadership that, “The stands of the party is clear that chairman is to the South and presidential candidate to the North and anything shot of that is a personal decision.”

Former president Goodluck Jonathan sounded a serious warning to the National Caretakers Committee (NCC) of the PDP that the issue of a few people attempting to micro-zone the positions of the National Chairman as well as that of the National Publicity Secretary of the party will spell doom for the party. In his own words, “If we make a mistake as a party and elect wrong chairman and publicity secretary, we are finished!”

The former president loved by all party faithful also stressed that, “This time around we need a very courageous and vocal person to be the Chairman (and National Publicity Secretary). There are two positions that we must not make mistake on –the positions of the NATIONAL CHAIRMAN and that of the NATIONAL PUBLICITY SECRETARY because I have worn the shoes before and I know where it pinches.” He reminds other party leaders again that, “We need a very competent person and a team player, somebody who will not negotiate to get money from the aspirants to make them candidates.” Re-emphasizing that, “PDP at this moment needed courageous Chairman and National Publicity Secretary, who in the face of persecution would remain courageous to protect the party’s interest and defend democracy.”

GoodLuck Ebele Jonathan (Former president of Nigeria)

He insisted that PDP will have better chances of winning the 2019 elections if only they shun the idea of micro-zoning the positions of the National Chairman and the National Publicity Secretary and allow credible candidates to contest so as to get the best. He added that, “If you present the best material (as Chairman and National Publicity Secretary) the chances of your winning election are stronger than when you present a wrong material.”

Other party members have been taking to tweeter and facebook to express their utter displeasure over what they refer to as “indirect imposition through micro-zoning,” which according to their several posts and tweets “is one of the major causes of the failure of the party.”

Boldly on his facebook Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba, a major critic of the APC lead government and a strong member of PDP, declares that “if PDP stalwarts allow the issue of indirect imposition through micro-zoning to hold then it is a good as forgetting making meaningful impact in 2019.” He called on all party leaders to rise against the idea of few other leaders using micro-zoning as an imposition tool to stop other credible candidates from contest in the forthcoming national convention.

He submitted insited that, “the office of the National Chairman was zoned to the entire South, while that of the President as well as National Publicity Secretary was zoned to the entire north. Why is it that few leaders of our great party, PPD, want to imposed their own candidate on the party, by clamouring for micro-zoning? We just came out of crises, party leaders should stand against this micro-zoning so as to ensure the offices of the National Chairman and National Publicity Secretary are keenly contested to get the best for the party,” the vocal clergy concluded.
