2019: A Call on Benue Youth to Support Ogenyi

Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi (Benue Governorship Hopeful)

As campaigns for the 2019 general elections gather momentum, a lot of aspirants across party lines have indicated their interests in becoming governor of Benue State. While some of these aspirants are serious contenders, others are just pretenders who are just in the race to either cause confusion or have their names and pictures printed on posters.
In the former category is Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi, a front line gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who has not allowed his youthful age act as an impediment to his aspiration.
It is surprising to know that leadership positions in Nigeria are filled with aged politicians who have the notion that nation-building is their exclusive right and as such, the youth should be relegated to the background.
Perhaps, this explains why  though youth are said to be leaders of tomorrow, that tomorrow remains elusive.
As a deviation, and considering recent developments in the polity, it has become strategically calculative that youth in the Country vie for various leadership positions. Of equal significance is that they must throng out en masse to ensure that their democratic will prevails.
A major demonstration and evidence of unity among youth in Benue state shall soon be put to test. In the coming election, the youth shall be confronted with either maintaining a status quo or challenging it. A challenge to the status quo shall be reflected in how supportive they are to their peer, Comrade Okpokwu, for it is on this support he shall rely majorly in challenging the power of incumbency.
In doing this, we must recall that Nigerian youth have been of immeasurable importance to the socioeconomic prosperity of the country as demonstrated by the likes of Sir Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe and Herbert Macaulay who all fought in their youthful days to deliver the political independence we all sought.
On this premise, it has become germane to urge all Benue youth and indeed, all indigenes of the State to support Comr. Okpokwu Ogenyi for the needed change Benue deserves at this critical time. In doing this, we must eschew all tendencies of tribal sentiment.
As an aspirant, his policies of liberating the State from its current economic quagmire are geared towards restoring the lost glory over the years.
